Holland - windmills, Edam & Amsterdam

  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel cycling, luggage transported
  • pretty villages and fishing harbours
  • archetypal Dutch landscapes
  • perfect cycling terrain

North of the bustling cities of Rotterdam and Amsterdam is one of the most fertile landscapes in Europe, a verdant peninsula lying between the great sand dunes of the North Sea and the picturesque shores of Ijsselmeer. From the pretty tulip-growing villages of the northern dunes to idyllic fishing harbours on the eastern seaboard, on this holiday you will experience a real taste of all those things that make up quintessential Holland.

The Dutch landscape is suprisingly varied, from stretches of pristine sand to shady woodland and, in April and May, seemingly endless fields of brightly coloured tulips.

From the town of Schagen, you explore one of Europe’s largest areas of sand dunes and tulip fields before heading south to Edam. Here, you discover delightful harbours and majestic windmills before a fitting finale in Amsterdam. You stay on a bed and breakfast basis at each hotel, allowing you to choose from local restaurants each night.
