Extend your stay
If you are flying via
Bordeaux
, capital of the wine trade, add on a city break for a real contrast to your cycling holiday.
Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.

welcoming country hotels
Known as the ‘Valley of Man’, the Vézère Valley is home to the greatest concentration of prehistoric sites in Europe. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, it also boasts a huge wealth and variety of natural attractions. Its lower reaches, just before the confluence with the mighty River Dordogne at Limeuil, are ideal for exploration on two wheels, as are the scenic hills between the two rivers.
The road drops down to the honey-coloured buildings of Limeuil, whose narrow cobbled streets hide craft shops and café terraces, ideal for welcome refreshments.
This delightful route embraces the enchanting landscapes on the western edge of Périgord Noir, the fertile and scenic heart of the Dordogne. As you cycle from one welcoming country hotel to the next, visit beautiful hill-top towns with bustling market places and traditional golden stone architecture, and make the most of the delicious gastronomy and excellent wines – the crisp, dry whites and Pécharmant reds from the Bergerac region are a good match for most local dishes.
