In the middle of the province of Girona, where the foothills of the Pyrenees gradually give way to the fertile Empordà Plain, lies the glittering turquoise lake of Banyoles, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This is an enchanting and little-known corner of Catalonia where you can enjoy rewarding walking and cycling amid a variety of gentle landscapes.

To say the views are excellent is an understatement. They stretch for 40 kilometres across three provinces to the Mediterranean.
