"Maria and Pavlos were wonderful hosts and always happy to answer any questions. The facilities in the apartments were excellent."
These simple but charming apartments have been highly praised by guests over the years, and are perfectly positioned for exploration of this little-visited area of the Greek mainland. The fishing village of Olympiada itself nestles in a sheltered bay on the north-east coast of Halkidiki, and is surrounded by green hills and excellent walking country - dense woodland, magnificent scenery and splendid waterfalls.
Olympiada (named after Olymbias, mother of Alexander the Great, who was exiled to nearby Stagira) has several tavernas and an assortment of shops including a bakery, and access to water sports activities. The crescent-shaped sandy beach is fantastic and the relaxed atmosphere of the village feels rather like the Greece of 40 years ago. The ancient site of Stagira is only 10 minutes away on foot along the coast. Legend has it that this is where Aristotle was born and some even consider it to be where he taught Alexander the Great.
Set in attractive grounds, the six apartments comprise a double bedroom, a living room with satellite television and two sofa beds, a kitchen (equipped with a hob and fridge), a shower room, safety deposit box, and a veranda with a table and chairs where you can cook in summer. They share barbecue facilities (and you are invited to pick fresh vegetables from the garden), an underground garage and a swimming pool.
The owners, Maria and Pavlos, live on site and from time to time will invite guests to join them for a barbecue (pay locally) or a little guitar music. They will be happy to help you arrange bike hire and, weather permitting, will also take you fishing or for an excursion on their own boat at no extra cost. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are particularly good with children, making the apartments an excellent choice for families. Here, you are approximately 800 metres from the beach and village centre with its choice of restaurants.
