Finding good-quality villas with their own pools is not easy on Cephalonia, but to find not one but two so close to such a gorgeous sandy beach was a real bonus. The quiet location is ideal for walking, with many tracks in the surrounding area, and you can also enjoy water sports and horse riding nearby.

The bustling little port of Lixouri, and its many shops and restaurants, is just a ten-minute drive away, while Argostoli - the island’s capital - is at the other end of a direct and regular ferry from Lixouri. While the 1,632-metre bulk of Mount Ainos dominates this eastern part of the island, you may also want to pay a visit to the monastery at Kipoureon - just 7 kilometres west of the villas - or relax on the spectacular beach at Petani, 12 kilometres to the north-west, where there are also two good restaurants.

A visit to the picturesque village of Poros, at the southernmost tip of the island, will allow you to explore some 2km of an exquisite coastline of white sand and turquoise waters. The area is renowned for its fishing, while its caves and beaches provide shelter for two endangered species - the Monk Seal and the Loggerhead Turtle, which has about 150 nests on the island.

Only a couple of years old, the villas are styled with contemporary Mediterranean décor, in contrast to the authentic, soft pastel colours chosen for the exterior, so typical of Cephalonia. Each villa is fully air-conditioned and has an extremely light and spacious open-plan living room with a fireplace, television, CD and DVD player. The well-equipped kitchen area comprises a full cooker and large fridge-freezer, as well as a dishwasher, kettle, toaster and coffee percolator. There are two twin bedrooms on the lower floor, both with en suite bath or shower rooms, and the upper floor leads to an attic room with a double bed with en suite bathroom.

The living room and lower bedrooms open out onto a lovely terrace surrounding the villa’s own private swimming pool (4 by 8 metres) with spectacular sea views. Of course, the inviting pools are not the only option for swimming - you can also enjoy a dip in the crystal-clear waters as a way to cool off after a walk on the long, sandy beach.

All in all, the villas make for a perfect family holiday during the summer, and are also an ideal base for couples to explore the island from a peaceful location during quieter months.
