Macedonia & the Halkidiki Peninsulas
Macedonia's appeal lies in the fact that it is very much authentic Greece, and not very well-known among visitors. A recommended part is Halkidiki, whose three mountainous peninsulas stretch into the Aegean. On the eastern side, a land of soft, wooded hills, is Olympiada, boasting very attractive beaches, and the ancient site of Stagira, where it is said that Aristotle taught Alexander the Great. For a memorable day trip, take a boat trip along the coast to view from afar the many astonishing Byzantine monasteries of Mount Athos.
