Greek City Stays
Experience Greece's vibrant cities on a short break
As an alternative to a full week or more in Greece, we can also arrange shorter stays of just a few nights in one of these wonderful cities. We offer a range of accommodation options for any of our city stays - from simple, homely hotels to more deluxe options with all the services and creature comforts you would expect - all of which offer the same friendly service and warm Greek hospitality. We are happy to discuss the options with you, and thoroughly recommend these short stays in order to experience the Greek way of life in these vibrant cities.
Athens
With revelations of ancient history around every corner, Athens is the most culturally rich city in Europe. You will find it hugely rewarding to wander round Plaka, a vibrant quarter full of architectural interest and narrow streets, with the backdrop of the imposing Akropolis to orientate and inspire you. You can also visit the world famous National Archeaological Museum, and spend time slowly strolling around and relaxing at cafes so as to soak up the unique atmosphere. Wherever you go, you will notice the city's vibrant sense of rejuvenation following the success of the Olympic Games in 2004.
Patras
This vibrant, energetic city, the largest in the Peloponnese, was chosen as the European City of Culture for 2006 and justly so. The carnival celebrations here in March are second only to Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy the pavement cafe scene, and visit the atmospheric kastro (fortress) with its breathtaking views over the Gulf of Corinth.
Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki was the second city of Byzantium and is now the second city of modern Greece. It is a sophisticated place, with a truly multicultural and international feel, boasting several museums, a scattering of Roman ruins and magnificent Byzantine churches. Visit the 15th-century White Tower, the city's symbol and most prominent landmark, the Archaeological Museum, or explore the kaestro, the old Turkish quarter, with its narrow streets huddled around a fortress on the slopes of Mount Hortiatis.
Nauplion
Sophisticated Nauplion is considered by many to be the most elegant town in the whole country. The narrow streets of the old town are filled with handsome neoclassical mansions and graceful Venetian houses. Take time to wander through immaculate marble squares and visit the towering medieval fortress of Palamides. A peaceful seaside resort with real style and atmosphere, Nauplion also makes a good base from which to explore the many ancient sites nearby.
