Inntravel Frequently Asked Questions

Shortbreaks

Q: We’re particularly interested in finding a hotel with a really good restaurant. Where can you recommend?

A: One of the criteria when selecting hotels for our short breaks programme is that they have a good restaurant. However, if you are looking for something of exceptional standard, we can recommend La Grenouillère (please book several months in advance if you wish to stay at a weekend), Le Buffet (bib gourmand in the Michelin guide), La Bonne Marmite (for an extra special treat, you can upgrade to the 8-course menu découverte), either Les Loges or the Cheval Blanc in Honfleur (our arrangements include a dinner at the Michelin-acclaimed Entre Terre et Mer) and Aux Armes de Champagne (Michelin star). Our Farmhouse Charm short break includes dinner at the renowned La Grenouillère.

Q: We would like to walk a bit over the weekend. Which hotels make good walking bases?

A: The Auberge St Christophe in the Suisse Normande makes a good walking base – there are some lovely paths in this part of Normandy.

Q: Are any of your short break hotels close to some gardens?

A: Les Hauts de Montreuil is within easy driving distance of the lovely Jardins de Valloires. If you want to visit Monet's garden at Giverny, the best choices are La Bonne Marmite (45 minutes' drive) and the Auberge de l'Abbaye and Petit Coq aux Champs (both an hour and ten minutes' drive),

Q: My elderly mother would like to join us on a short break. She can only manage one or two steps. Where do you recommend?

A: Hotels whose restaurants are on the ground floor and which also have a limited number of bedrooms on the ground floor include the Ferme Auberge des Chartroux and La Rançonnière, but at both there are occasional steps as you make your way around the hotel. Before making a booking, we would always recommend that you speak to one of our reservations staff to discuss your requirements in detail. If the person you get through to does not know the hotel personally, he or she will ask whoever has visited the hotel to call you back.

Q: To celebrate my husband’s retirement, I’d like to treat him to a short break. Do you have any suggestions?

A: If you are looking for a weekend away in the country, we can recommend the Petit Coq aux Champs or the Aux Armes de Champagne, which is a particularly good choice for foodies. For a city break, choose the 4-star Hotel Carlton in Lille. You can upgrade to first-class seats on the Eurostar, and we will be happy to book a table at the Michelin-starred A l'Huitrière for you. Whatever you choose, we can arrange little extras – special cakes, flowers and champagne in your room etc – and are happy to organise small group bookings. Most of our hotels can cater for groups of around 20; some can cater for more. Please call us to discuss your requirements.

Q: We have a young child. Are any of your short break hotels suitable for families?

A: Try the Hostellerie des Tourelles or the Ferme Auberge des Chartroux. You will find a relaxed, informal atmosphere and a warm welcome at both. As they are both very close to Calais, travelling times can be kept to a minimum. The Ferme Auberge des Chartroux is particularly popular among young families as the auberge is part of a working farm, and children can watch the animals in the yard.

Q: We want to do something a bit different on our weekend away. Do you have anything to fit the bill?

A: Our active breaks cater for all tastes - you can walk, cycle, ski or go horse riding. For a mix of culture and walking, try one of our 'city & walking' breaks - choose Marrakesh & the High Atlas or Porto & the Douro Valley. We also highly recommend our walking Around Fornalutx weekend in Mallorca, which features 3 nights B&B plus 2 dinners and two guided walks in the mountains.

Q: We want to do something different for New Year. Where can we go that's really special?

A: For a traditional New Year, why not try a city break in one of our hotels in Bruges? Or, for sunshine, you can choose from one of many wonderful hotels and a bit of festive fun somewhere warm. Lively southern festivities can seem like the perfect beginning to the year ahead, whether you want to take in Funchal's firework display on Madeira or experience sumptuous opulence on Mallorca.
