Walking in the Alps

Exhilarating walking in the Alps for all ages

Freedom as a family

There are no fixed itineraries, and there is no emphasis on being in a certain place at a certain time or having to work around the plans of others. Instead, armed with our detailed holiday notes and the wealth of information they provide, you are free to choose the activities and places to explore, when you want and how you want. We also provide all the essential information every family needs to know: details of welcoming restaurants nearby, opening times of local supermarkets, the location of the nearest beach, or where you can wash your clothes. Together with our carefully crafted walking route notes, this information will help you to make the most of your precious time together from the very start.

As active as you wish

Choose to do as much or as little as you wish: perhaps today is a day for activities by the pool, or maybe the views from the top of the mountain railway will be at their best this morning? It’s entirely up to you. What makes our holidays stand out from the crowd is our meticulous selection of Europe’s most unspoiled and secluded areas, where breathtaking scenery, high-quality and welcoming accommodation, and traditional ways of life are just waiting to be discovered. No-one knows your child better than you do, in terms of what interests them and how active they like to be. For this reason, we prefer not to give age guidelines for the wide choice of activities we offer - whether it’s horse-riding, a nature walk or mountain biking - so that you can judge what is right for your family.

As active as you want........

Timeless corners

From the spectacular mountain scenery of the Austrian Alps to the rolling landscapes of Tuscany, the holidays featured in our Families programme are located in regions of astonishing natural beauty. Largely off the beaten track, they remain wonderfully unspoiled and reward you with fascinating discoveries, from far-reaching views to hidden coves and enchanting wildlife. These areas offer the ideal opportunity for you to create your own perfect blend of gentle activity, relaxation, fun, culture and comfort.

A place to suit your family

All our accommodation - whether hotels or self-catering villas and cottages - varies in size and style, but we carefully select places of character and authenticity to ensure that families are welcomed and feel totally relaxed in their surroundings. In fact, many are family-run themselves, so your hosts know exactly what you are looking for! We have worked with all our accommodation providers for many years, and they are on hand to share their knowledge of the local area and help out with any questions you might have.

Children love water

Children love water

Similarly, we know how much children (and adults too, for that matter!) just love to swim or splash around, so we make sure you are close to water on every holiday in our programme. Nearly all hotels have their own pools or are located in towns and villages with good swimming facilities and self-catering properties have shared or private pools. At destinations where there is no nearby swimming pool - and at many places where there is - you will find yourselves handily located near to the beach.

School holiday ideas

Here are just a few of our suggestions for making the most of this year’s school holidays as a family. Please remember, however, that the school holidays are the most popular periods to travel, so we advise you to book early (we suggest at least four months in advance due to the intense demand for flights and accommodation).
