The Splendours of Al-Andalus

Regular Inntravellers, David and Jennifer Grech, have just returned from our three-city holiday by rail to Andalucía on which they visited Seville, Córdoba and Granada, three of the region's most iconic cities. David is a highly-accomplished artist (you might be interested in his book, Head to Head: The Sketchbook of a Walk across England), and he has kindly sent us a selection of his wonderful pen and watercolour sketches, which are reproduced below. They are simply exquisite and perfectly capture the magical atmosphere of these great cities, highlighting the ornate and delicate design and architecture which flourished under Moorish rule. Indeed, paintings can often capture the very essence of a place, far more than a photograph. But there's no need for me to describe these cities further – David's pictures paint a thousand words...
