Bear-faced cheek!

Self-guided walking holidays in CanadaImagine slowly walking to the window to draw back the curtains in your hotel room one morning – and there in the garden is a large black bear!

Well, this is exactly what happened to guests at the Auberge du Jardin in Petit Saguenay in Québec recently. The young bear had taken up residency in the garden for the autumn, quite wisely realising that the fruit-filled trees in the orchard would supply his (or her) needs for several weeks.

Far from alarming anyone – this is, after all, a wild bear that had wandered in from the surrounding forests that line the dramatic Saguenay Fjord – hoteliers Michel and Marie Jose have reported that the guests who saw it were enchanted and thrilled and were keen to capture this apple thief on film. Indeed, they have all now returned home with “un beau souvenir bien original”, from what surely must rate as a once-in-a-lifetime close encounter of the furry kind.
