Winter snow breaks in EuropeI came across the first snows of winter last weekend while walking over the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire. Looking towards the Yorkshire Dales, I noticed that there was even more snow on the Whernside and Ingleborough. It was little more than a dusting where I was, but it did make me start to wonder what it’s going to be like in the mountains of the Alps or Scandinavia this winter? Need some inspiration?

Self-guided walking holidays in CanadaImagine slowly walking to the window to draw back the curtains in your hotel room one morning – and there in the garden is a large black bear! Well, this is exactly what happened to guests at the Auberge du Jardin in Petit Saguenay in Québec recently. The young bear had taken up residency in the garden for the autumn, quite wisely realising that the fruit-filled trees in the orchard would supply his (or her) needs for several weeks.
