Apparently, there’s an important game of football at Wembley this weekend. Some team from Manchester and another for Barcelona. It’s not really my thing but I know many people around the world are besotted with this game. Now, if you want to see a real football match, the place to be is Florence this June.

Ryedales Vineyards, Yorkshire, UKNext week sees the start of English Wine Week 2011 (28 May-5 June) – the perfect excuse (if you needed one) to celebrate an English rosé wine winning Gold at the annual International Wine Challenge. There were 367 entries from all over the world in the ‘still rosé’ category but it was Denbies Chalk Ridge Rosé 2010 (from Surrey) that was awarded gold.

Farne Islands, Northumberland, UKI’ve just come back from a long weekend in the Tweed Valley in the Scottish Borders – wonderful walking country – and, on the way north, we stopped off to visit the Farne Islands – a ‘must’ for anyone even remotely interested in wildlife. With Arctic terns just arriving back from the southern oceans, and Puffins, Guillemots, Shags and Eiders nesting and burrowing everywhere, now is the time to see these wonderful islands at their most frenetic.
