Dine with the stars!

It’s that time of year again when the world’s elite chefs and restaurateurs wonder if they’ve managed to gain a much-coveted Michelin star or indeed managed to retain this hard-earned award.

The announcement was made on 1st February in Paris and we’re delighted to see that on the list are three of the hotels you will stay at (and where we include dinner!) on our holidays in France.

We’ve listed those below which have retained their stars:

• The Aigue Marine (above) in Tréguier (The Granite Coast of Brittany);

• Le Pont de l’Ouysse (below) near Lacave (Dordogne Valley cycle upgrade option; Paths to Rocamadour and The Long Trail to Rocamadour walks);

• Le Montrachet (second below) in Puligny Montrachet (Treasures of Southern Burgundy cycle).

So our heartiest congratulations go to them...

However, you don’t have at be staying at a particular restaurant to dine there. There are several that have gained new stars at which you can choose to dine while on a number of our other French walking and cycling holidays:

• 'JYS' in Colmar (chef Jean-Yves Schillinger’s second star) (if extending to Colmar from Castles, Vines & Forests of Alsace);

• 'La Grande Maison' in Bordeaux (chef Joel Robuchon also boasts two Michelin stars) (Bordeaux & St Emilion cycle, or if extending your stay after Pyrenees to the Atlantic or Pilgrim Routes of Gascony walks);

• 'Le Pressoir d'Argent – Gordon Ramsay', also in Bordeaux, which has been awarded its first star.

Others to look out for on your travels through France are:

• 'Allium' in Quimper (Brittany’s Land’s End cycle);

• 'Jérôme Nutile' at Le Mas de Boudan in Nîmes (add a stay in Nîmes to our To Pont du Gard or Beneath Mont Lozère walks);

• 'Jan' in Nice (add on to From the Alps to the Mediterranean walk or Atlantic to Mediterranean journey);

• 'Pèir' in Gordes (Heart of Provence journey or Hill-Top Villages of the Luberon walks);

• 'Le Cloître' in Forcalquier/Mane (Scents & Flavours of Provence; Provence Long Trail; Heart of Provence journey, or self-catering at Garden View Apartments in Pierrerue).

Meanwhile, much closer to home, we’re delighted to see that 'Mr Underhill’s' in Ludlow (Castles of the Shropshire Marches) has retained its star, as has 'The Star Inn' at Harome (below), thus consolidating the culinary credentials of our Yorkshire Gastronomic Celebration.
