Auberge sign FranceWe arrived at Zeebrugge, relieved to ditch the sea legs after a somewhat rough crossing, and ready to start the drive to our first auberge. I felt quite smug at the ease at which we disembarked the ferry - no queuing up for passport control or to collect bags with this option! I was also very excited about the prospect of seeing the auberges we use in France 'in the flesh'.

Rob in Uchisar, TurkeyI have to say I was quite thrilled when I was asked to accompany a colleague on a trip to Cappadocia earlier this year. Central Turkey was not a region I knew well, but as I began to seek out information and images of the area prior to going, I soon became enthralled and fascinated by the strange landscapes of tall, white rock-capped pillars that litter the countryside around the so-called troglodyte town of Göreme. Utterakhand, IndiaDon’t be surprised if, as happened to me, your friends' interested expressions quickly turn blank when you tell them that you’re going on a trip to Uttarakhand in Northern India. Utter-a-where? It doesn’t help, perhaps, that the state has recently changed its name from Uttaranchal, but then I doubt whether many of you - or your friends - had heard of that either.

BavariaWe’re delighted to announce that our new walking and cycling brochures for next year are just about ready now and will be available by the end of the December. One of the highlights of both programmes is a new destination for 2011 - spectacular Bavaria - where you can discover "Bavarian Castles & Villages" on a leisurely cycle, or wander "Beneath the Zugspitze” on a hotel-to-hotel walk.

Horses near Castle Howard, YorkshireWell, December's here and it seems to be snowing all over the country - apparently, the satellite images for the UK show only one small area of green in southwest Scotland that has (as of yesterday) not had any snow at all yet. Does this fill you with anticipation and excitement about your forthcoming skiing or winter walking holidays; are you still deciding where to go? - or are you already thinking ahead to spring and summer and a holiday beneath sunny skies?
