A whale of a time

Sometimes our customers send us reviews of their walking holiday that are worthy of more than just a line or two.  Such was the case with Jon and Jacqueline Owen from Sale who went to the Azores on their honeymoon back in 2011. Now, a honeymoon should be memorable in its own right, but it is clear from their words below that for the Owens, this archipelago adventure surpassed all expectations:

We went to the Azores for our honeymoon. It was stunning! The volcanoes, the dolphins and whales, the lushness, the views, the walks, the accommodation... and the very relaxing time! Walking up a volcano into its massive crater and then swimming in its warm, full-of-little-fish water was a particular highlight.

As was the view from the Pousada Santa Cruz on Faial – if you can live with a gorgeous sunset whilst sitting on the balcony of an hotel built in an old fort, looking across the pool past the cannons, past the fort battlements to the bustling harbour, and out across the sea to another island [Pico], with the largest volcano in Europe...

Trekking across the moonscape of a 1958 eruption was also pretty amazing. We booked an extra whale-watching trip on the last island, too, and were lucky enough to see some baby sperm whales, which leapt out of the water, along with a few thousand or so dolphins in total! It was the best holiday we've ever had. Relaxing, peaceful and stunning.”

The Azores are less than 4 hours away by direct flight from London. You can follow in the footsteps of the Owens on a self-guided walking holiday and Discover the Green Island (7 nights) or opt for the full Archipelago Experience (14 nights).
