Seeing David Grech's sketches of the Lofoten Islands in Norway brought back fond memories of my time there a few years ago. I was enthralled by the dramatic landscapes and took every opportunity to photograph every scene I saw – quite difficult when you are trying to get from A to B – or should that be, from B to Å. Winter snow breaks in EuropeI came across the first snows of winter last weekend while walking over the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire. Looking towards the Yorkshire Dales, I noticed that there was even more snow on the Whernside and Ingleborough. It was little more than a dusting where I was, but it did make me start to wonder what it’s going to be like in the mountains of the Alps or Scandinavia this winter? Need some inspiration?

Walking holidays in EuropeIn the past I’ve eulogised about OS Maps which are simply the best in the world. As walkers in the UK, we’re blessed not only with marvellous maps, but also with good waymarks, whether that’s traditional wooden signposts, circular disc arrows, or reassuring cairns to mark the way.  But it’s not the same everywhere you go…
