You don’t need to travel far from Calais – just 40 miles in the case of this gastronomic 2-star hotel – before you feel as though you are in the heart of France. There are sleepy villages set in pretty valleys, Flemish market towns with elegant step-gabled houses, and that distinctive French rhythm to life. This northernmost corner is often overlooked in the rush to head further south, but Pas-de-Calais rewards the visitor with so much of interest.
The food was out of this world – definitely the best meal I’ve ever had in northern France. And the cheese trolley…!
