You don’t need to travel far from Calais – just 17 miles in the case of this charming 3-star farmhouse – before you feel as though you are in the heart of France. There are sleepy villages set in pretty valleys, Flemish market towns with elegant step-gabled houses, and that distinctive French rhythm to life. This northernmost corner is often overlooked in the rush to head further south, but Pas-de-Calais rewards the visitor with so much of interest.
The Ferme du Vert is very quirky, by which I mean that the rooms are all individually decorated and there are lots of snugs dotted about the building in which to relax. The food is great too – a modern slant on traditional French country fare.
