You don’t need to travel far from Calais – just 44 miles in the case of this charming 3-star farmhouse – before you feel as though you are in the heart of France. There are sleepy villages set in pretty valleys, Flemish market towns with elegant step-gabled houses, and that distinctive French rhythm to life. This northernmost corner is often overlooked in the rush to head further south, but Pas-de-Calais rewards the visitor with so much of interest.
This is a great choice if you’re looking for a ‘real’ French experience – and such good value, too. Madame Delianne’s onion soup is fantastic.

Madame Delianne is your charming hostess at the Ferme Auberge des Chartroux, a working farm where families are very welcome. Situated in beautiful countryside on the outskirts of the village of Maresville, it makes a great-value base for a couple of days of exploration and relaxation.
