  • twin-centre, city and guided walk
  • explore the foothills beneath the Atlas Mountains
  • half-day tour of Marrakesh included
  • personal guide in the foothills

Less than sixty kilometres south of Marrakesh rise the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. Watered by the snow that caps the highest peaks for much of the winter, the valleys here are green and fertile, planted with apple, peach, cherry and apricot orchards, and dotted with isolated Berber villages linked by ancient mule trails that are still used by traders to this day.

We ambled past peach and orange groves, waving back to the many farmers who stopped their work to shout hello to us. Our target was the Tin-Mal Mosque, the only one in Morocco whose peaceful, intricately carved interior can be visited by non-Muslims, a fact that made the experience all the more special.

Staff travel diary

Accompanied by your own friendly guide, who lets you set the pace and really brings the holiday to life for you, you walk predominantly along well-defined paths and mule tracks beside rivers and along the sides of fertile valleys. There are few ascents and descents and you pass through authentic, timeless villages where traditional ways of life continue to this day. Tranquillity reigns in these lush valleys, so different from chaotic but thrilling Marrakesh, where you start your holiday.
