Thrilling journeys deep within the Arctic Circle, remarkable rail journeys negotiating high Alpine passes and steep-sided valleys, spectacular drives along the renowned Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia ... travelling itself can provide memories that last a lifetime. However, an Inntravel journey reveals so much more of the landscapes, culture and heritage.
Something for all seasons
We offer a unique selection of independent, self-guided journeys, with something for all seasons. You could choose an extended grand journey by rail and/or boat, incorporating some of Europe’s most inspirational scenery and greatest cities in Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Spain and Morocco. Our touring holidays by car in New England and eastern Canada reveal vast, wide-open spaces that astound you with their scale, or, closer to home, in Croatia, Italy or Greece, you could focus on one region in detail. On a city walking journey by rail in Spain, Italy or Portugal, take your time to visit the famous sites and hidden gems revealed by our comprehensive city guides. And if you enjoy wintry panoramas but prefer not to ski, our winter journeys transport you by train or boat through the Alps’ and Norway’s awe-inspiring landscapes.
Explore to your heart’s content
We plan all our journeys carefully and in great detail. Your journey between hotels often takes you through inspiring scenery, and when you are travelling by car we try to build in time for you to visit historic towns and local places of interest along the way. You usually stay two nights or more at each hotel on the itinerary, giving you time to be an inquisitive traveller: visit the hidden galleries and museums of historic cities; discover classical and ancient monuments; browse the craft shops of hill-top towns; or simply relax and savour fine regional cuisine at our recommended restaurants. As you might expect from us, we often suggest some enjoyable walks to help you explore even further, but there is no need to walk if you don’t want to.
Hotels of character and comfort
Common to all journeys – whether you are staying in the heart of a city or in a tranquil valley – are comfortable, family-run hotels which reflect the character of the place and which offer a warm welcome and high standards of service. Where there are limited restaurants nearby, we generally include dinner; at city or other hotels where there is a good choice of restaurants locally, you stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis so that you have the freedom to dine where you choose.
Detailed documentation
Because we want to ensure you get maximum enjoyment from your holiday, we provide you with detailed documentation. Along with cultural information and guidance on your journeys (or full driving instructions and maps if you are journeying by car), we provide suggestions for what to see and do at each place, including details of bike hire or local excursions, if appropriate. Furthermore, if we know of any good walks in the vicinity, or have devised a walking trail of the city you are visiting, we include detailed route notes.
The right journey for you
If you need any advice, please do not hesitate to contact our knowledgeable reservations team. Once you have chosen a holiday, we will be happy to help you tailor the arrangements to suit you. You can choose the start date, your travel route from the UK, where you would like extra nights along the way to give you more time to explore, and whether or not to make any upgrades such as a larger hire car or first-class travel on journeys by rail.
