This little-known region is a closely guarded secret that Madrileños tend to keep to themselves. It is a land of sleepy medieval villages, far-reaching views and wonderful gastronomic traditions.
I lead Madrileño while the children ride to the sound of the occasional ding of a cowbell and the call of a cuckoo. Something close to real peace floods through me.
Clover Stroud, The Observer
Enjoy a few leisurely days of walking through juniper woodland and along delightful river valleys following ancient transhumance routes travelled since the Middle Ages by huge flocks sheep in search of fresh pastures. The whole journey is framed by the soft peaks of the Guadarrama mountain range – often snow-capped until mid-June. The gradients are gentle and you walk accompanied by a donkey, which the children will love leading – and riding!
