Extend your stay
If you are flying via cosmopolitan Barcelona, add on a city break for a contrast to your cycling holiday.
  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel cycling, luggage transported
  • real sense of discovery and adventure
  • historic hotels and volcanic landscapes
  • enchanting and little-known area

The warm, wooded hills of the Garrotxa in the foothills of the Pyrenees lead down towards the sea and mark the transition from the mountain to the Mediterranean landscape. Around the little town of Olot rise the conical masses of ancient volcanoes, a truly surprising topography. This is one of Catalonia’s least-known and most varied regions, where you cycle among ancient stone villages, dotted between wheat fields and pine woods, on your way to the fascinating city of Girona
The trail made its final thrust through shaded woodland and vast rich allotments, so the change to city roar when it came was oddly instantaneous.

Nicholas Roe, The Times
Starting close to the picturesque lake of Banyoles, this cycle route explores a culturally rich yet remote-feeling corner of Catalonia which is blessed by a truly Mediterranean climate. You stay in some unique and splendid hotels, and experience a variety of landscapes. The final section is a gentle riverside descent on via verde (dedicated cycle paths) through the ancient woodland of La Selva, bringing you to Girona - a wonderful and often-overlooked city which makes a great place to finish your journey.
