It’s been quite warm today and there’s still no sign of autumn in the air, even though it’s evening and we’re now back at our hotel in historic Venosa. Today’s bike ride was wonderful, cycling through rolling hills of vineyards to the pretty village of Melfi, dominated by a rather impressive castle, in the shadow of Monte Vulture, a long-extinct volcano. Walking holidays in the Canary IslandsAfter our all-too-brief exploration of Gran Canaria, we headed to La Palma, fondly referred to as La Isla Bonita, ‘the pretty island’ – and it soon becomes apparent why. The steep slopes are covered in swathes of lush green trees amongst which small, colourful hamlets stare out over the deep blue ocean. I was completely taken in by the natural beauty of the place – though driving here is not for the faint-hearted. Read the full post
