In a recent survey (24 August 2010) to find "Britain’s favourite view", three out of the top ten locations feature in Inntravel’s UK walking holidays.
Unsurprisingly, the outstandingly beautiful landscapes of the Lake District came out on top, with pretty Buttermere (1st) and Derwentwater (2nd) leading the way, and the more dramatic Wastwater (8th) not far behind.
But it wasn’t a northern whitewash - the iconic Seven Sisters in Sussex (3rd) and picturesque St Ives in Cornwall (4th) were followed closely by unmistakable Stonehenge and Holkham Beach in Norfolk (5th & 6th respectively).
However, coming in at No. 7 was remote and timeless Swaledale (above), one of Inntravel’s Classic Yorkshire Dales, followed by the magnificent Bamburgh Castle (right)on Northumberland’s spectacular coast (9th) which you can visit by walking In the Footsteps of Saints. Making up the ten is Loch Coruisk on the Isle of Skye, a wild and remote loch reached either by taking a boat trip from Elgol or by walking to the end of Glen Sligachan to look down upon it from above (below).
We all have our favourites and, although I am a great lover of the landscapes of the Lake District, I also love the Yorkshire coast, the view north over Runswick Bay from Kettleness being one that I never tire of seeing. Why not tell us where your favourite UK view is?
Watch this space - we will soon be announcing details of a fantastic photographic competition with the chance to win an Inntravel holiday!
